Why Removal of Headphone Jack won't be a Big Problem?
I know, I know. It would be a hell lot of difficult to all of us to use the old headphones, and jack-related accessories and things, but here is my explanation.
Bluetooth will Prevail
What we lacked was a good, solid Bluetooth experience. To the date, most of the Bluetooth experiences were feeble, clumsy, awkward and requiring constant pairing that was cumbersome for all of us. And that frustration is actually making us believe that Apple's Bluetooth solution will also make us miserable.
But, that doesn't seem to be the case here. From the effortless pairing to the littlest requirements while you are listening over Apple's AirPods, they have considered every little thing to make sure that your Bluetooth experience doesn't make you unhappy or miserable. After all, they also realize that listening to music is one of the most regular and important activity smartphone users do and that daily practice can't be made miserable. They have increased the experience significantly. Though, I haven't got the chance to try those AirPods myself, but their explicit presentations explains everything good enough.
Bluetooth is already all around us. In cars, speakers, and even drinking cups. Why not make that mainstream? Mossberg's article on The Verge, says that all the omissions Apple made so far (floppy disk, CD drive, Ethernet port, etc) were becoming obsolete and that's why it was rational for Apple to discard them, but headphone jack wasn't becoming obsolete, then why discard that?
Because, there was a better experience available on Bluetooth than the wired headphones. First, you don't have jumbled up headphone wires anymore. Second, you don't need to plug them in. The simple gesture of putting them into your ear was beginning the music and getting them out was stopping it. There is one less step to do. And, every single one of us has got frustrated gazillions of times, while untangling the tangled headphone wires.
Bluetooth is making things easier and that also happens to be Apple's take on everything. Doesn't it.
Advent of Wireless Charging is Apparent in the Decision
Being wireless is the future. Apple (and other companies) will eventually get rid of all the wires and we will be one step closer to gadget-heavens.
What Apple's decision of removing headphone tells us about iPhone's future is this: As next generation iPhone could come with a wireless charging (expect that as next year is the 10th anniversary of the flagship phone), the problem of listening to music while charging will be solved. For now, they have provided the AirPods.
Although, the initial transition will be difficult, at the end, everybody will thank Apple for doing it.
